Three Eagle Trail
The Three Eagle Trail is a scenic, 12.7-mile non-motorized trail that connects the communities of Three Lakes and Eagle River in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. It is managed by a local non-profit foundation dedicated to providing year-round outdoor recreation.
Key Features:
Activities: The trail is designed for "silent sports," including biking, walking, and running during the spring, summer, and fall. In the winter, a 4.9-mile section is professionally groomed for both classic and skate cross-country skiing.
Terrain & Scenery: Built largely on a historic railroad corridor, the path features a 10-foot wide surface of compacted crushed limestone. It winds through diverse landscapes, including lush hardwood forests, wetlands, and over several scenic boardwalks and bridges (such as the 660-foot boardwalk over Mud Creek).
Amenities: To enhance the visitor experience, the trail is equipped with bike repair stations, water fountains, pit toilets, and screened picnic shelters.
Wildlife: Because it passes through remote areas and marshes, it is an excellent spot for birdwatching and spotting local wildlife like deer and eagles.
Access: The trail has two main sections connected by a short stretch on a low-traffic paved road. It is free to use, though it relies on community donations for maintenance.
Whether you are looking for a vigorous workout or a peaceful commute between towns through nature, the Three Eagle Trail offers a high-quality, family-friendly outdoor experience.
